About Newry Pride

Newry Pride took place on Saturday 22 August 2026, bringing a city procession and a Party in the Square together. Newry.ie’s photographs published on 24 August document the celebration. The organiser is LGBTQ+ Women’s Group Newry, supported by volunteers from across the community.

Pride combines celebration with protest, visibility and the continuing struggle for equal rights. Newry’s main day put LGBTQ+ people and allies in public streets, with music and community information at the finish. Other events surrounded it, but this guide covers the single parade and celebration day.

Decide whether you want to join the procession, watch it pass or head straight to the concert. Those choices lead to different arrival points. Keep the daytime square programme separate from evening venues when planning tickets, meals and your journey home.

When and where

The organiser’s 2026 page gives 22 August. The Parades Commission notification (PAR\108426) listed a 1pm parade from Newry Leisure Centre via Clanrye Avenue, Monaghan Street, Merchants Quay, Sugar Island and Hill Street to Marcus Square, where the concert took place. The 7 August programme report described a Party in the Square after the march, with further events in city venues.

The 2027 date is TBC. The organiser’s homepage and public social links still point to the 2026 edition; no official 2027 announcement was found. Treat the historical venues and timetable as background, then check the organiser’s new programme before committing to non-refundable travel.

Newry Pride parade route and start time

The Parades Commission notification recorded a 1pm start at Newry Leisure Centre and a proposed 1.30pm finish. It listed Clanrye Avenue, Monaghan Street, Merchants Quay, Sugar Island, Hill Street and Marcus Square. Newry.ie also advertised a 1pm departure. No separate assembly time was published in those sources.

There was a timing conflict: the PSNI’s 21 August notice said the parade would commence at noon. The Commission and local programme said 1pm. These are historical published instructions, not a timetable for 2027; ask the organiser for the next edition’s final joining arrangements.

Monaghan Street and Merchants Quay were options for watching along the notified route. Marcus Square suited visitors prioritising the concert. Keep crossings and entrances clear, follow marshals and choose a meeting point away from the moving procession. Newry.ie reported that groups could register online, but did not give a fee or closing date. Contact the organiser before entering a group.

Newry Pride tickets, prices and what’s on

Newry.ie’s 2026 event listing described the main event as free. Its programme report listed performances from Blu Hydrangea, George Heuston, Susi Pagel and Ashgrove. Family-friendly activities included craft corners, circus acts and face painting, alongside information stalls from LGBTQ+ organisations.

The official after-party at The Whistlin’ Donkey, from 8pm to 11.30pm, was separately ticketed through Eventbrite. The programme report advertised cabaret, drag and burlesque. The organiser’s official link hub also linked that ticket page and the event guide. Check the chosen venue’s age conditions and ticket terms directly; daytime family activities do not establish admission rules for the evening.

For a shorter visit, combine watching the march with part of the square programme. Leave a gap for food and a rest before deciding on an after-party. A room nearby can make that break easier, but accommodation is separate from festival admission.

Newry Pride travel and road closures

Translink’s Newry station page places the railway station on Derrybeg Lane. Ulsterbus 341 connects it with Newry Buscentre, meeting most NI Railways arrivals and departures. Check both legs rather than assuming every train has a connecting bus. The bus station is at 16 Canal Quay.

The council’s 2026 notice, published in the Newry Reporter, proposed closing Hill Street from Margaret Square junction to Marcus Square, 9am–5pm on 22 August. PSNI subsequently confirmed Hill Street closures and warned of short traffic delays. Its advice was to use public car parks and avoid obstructing homes or businesses.

For the next edition, check road notices before choosing a drop-off point. Save your final train or bus and the station connection before entering an evening venue. If that connection does not suit your plans, arrange a taxi or stay overnight. A station’s opening hours are not the time of your last train.

Where to stay

Two central choices below put you near the historical route; the third is a guest-accommodation option to compare for a smaller budget. Godfrey Mews is self-catering, rather than a conventional hotel. Compare total costs, cancellation terms and your return journey. A budget comparison is not a promise of the lowest price. Ask each property about the exact room and access you need.

Accessibility

Translink explicitly lists step-free access, lifts, a train boarding ramp and accessible toilets at Newry railway station. These are station facilities, rather than promises about the parade route. Discuss boarding assistance and the onward 341 connection with Translink before travelling.

The opened event sources did not publish a confirmed accessible viewing area, BSL provision, quiet space or event Changing Places toilet. Ask the organiser through its contact page about the next edition’s layout and toilet arrangements. Describe whether you need level access, a seat, space for a mobility aid or a quieter stopping point.

Assess the whole journey: transport, watching position, concert space and the return to your room. An accessible station alone does not settle every part. If an evening venue is important, contact it separately about its entrance and toilet, and confirm arrangements before paying.

Frequently asked questions

When is Newry Pride 2027?

The 2027 date has not been announced yet. The 2026 event was on 22 August. We will update this guide when the organiser confirms the next date.

Did Newry Pride happen in 2026?

Yes. The main day was 22 August. Newry.ie’s photographic report, published on 24 August, documents the celebration rather than only advertising it.

Where did the parade finish?

The notified route ended at Marcus Square after passing Hill Street. The 2026 concert took place there, so visitors could prioritise the finish instead of joining the whole procession.

Was everything free?

The main event listing described free entry. The official after-party was separately ticketed. Check each venue’s terms; a free daytime celebration does not include every evening event.

Can I arrive by train?

Newry station is on Derrybeg Lane. Translink lists the 341 connection to Newry Buscentre. Match its timetable to your actual train and make a separate plan for the return after evening events.
