About Stockport Pride

Stockport Pride brings the local LGBTQ+ community together in the historic Market Place, with a parade through the town centre. The event is organised by the registered charity Stockport Pride. It combines performances with stalls, a family space and somewhere to step away from the noise.

Pride began as protest against discrimination and for equal rights. This local celebration keeps that visibility in the streets, while giving visitors a place to meet community organisations and enjoy a day together.

Its compact centre suits visitors who want a daytime event rather than a large park festival. The upper Market Place and lower shopping streets are at different levels. Plan the hill or lift connection as part of your day, especially if you are joining the parade.

When and where

The 2026 main event was held on Sunday 26 July in Stockport’s Market Place, SK1 1ES. The organiser advertised 11am to 7pm. The parade started at noon and finished at the festival.

Stockport Pride also listed events for Saturday 25 July 2026. These included community discussions and a placard-making workshop at Stockroom, plus a screening of Pride at the Plaza. The daytime workshops required free tickets; they were separate from Sunday’s main event.

A 2027 date has not been officially announced on the organiser’s website. The date and programme are TBC. Do not assume the same Sunday or the same parade route will be used next year.

Stockport Pride march route and start time

For 2026, assembly was from 11.30am on the Underbanks, between Robinsons and the bottom of Mealhouse Brow. Departure was at noon. The organiser provided an online form to register interest in marching.

The route continued through Merseyway and its covered section, then Suffragette Square and Bridgefield Street past The Light. It turned onto Hatton Street and Deanery Way before returning through Merseyway to Warren Street. Vernon Street led up to the Market Place finish.

The organiser said this route differed from previous years. Walkers, wheelchair users and mobility scooters were allowed, but other vehicles were not. No parade registration fee or deadline was published on the page.

Merseyway and Suffragette Square offered places to watch along the published route. Keep through routes and shop doors free, and leave room for people using wheelchairs. The start and finish can be busier than a stretch between them, so decide whether watching or marching is your priority.

Stockport Pride free events and what’s on

The organiser’s 2026 ticket listing said entry to the main event was completely free. Entertainment centred on the Martyn Hett Stage, according to Creative Support’s 2026 announcement, with singers, drag performers and other acts. Community organisations, charities, makers and businesses had stalls, alongside food and drink.

Families were welcome. The Family Space, hosted by Proud 2 b Parents, ran from noon to 4pm outside the former Red Bull in Market Place. Its published activities included crafts, play equipment, games, a book nook and drag queen story times.

The separate Quiet Space operated inside Stockport Museum from noon to 3.45pm. Its earlier closing time mattered if you wanted a break later in the afternoon. These 2026 hours do not establish the next edition’s timetable.

For a future day out, budget for refreshments even where admission is free. Pack layers for an outdoor stage and agree a meeting place with friends. A shorter visit focused on the parade and family activities can be easier than staying for the whole programme.

Stockport Pride travel and getting there

Stockport railway station is on Grand Central Way. It is separate from the Market Place, so check your walking route before leaving the station. Transport for Greater Manchester describes a route towards the centre via the Interchange’s podium park and Mersey Square.

The Interchange is useful for bus arrivals as well as the walk from rail. Check your bus operator’s current timetable and any diversions before travelling. A historical parade route is not a promise that all neighbouring roads will remain open.

For driving, choose a public car park that suits your onward walking route and check its opening and exit arrangements. Specific 2026 Pride road-closure and event-parking instructions were not found in the organiser’s published pages.

The 2026 event was on a Sunday. Check engineering work, last trains and connecting services for your actual travel date. Leave time to descend from Market Place and reach your platform. If you need step-free access, allow for lift use rather than taking a rushed route down steps.

Where to stay

The first two choices are local hotels for walking or a short town journey to the event; the budget option is farther north. Check the actual route and cancellation terms before booking, and wait for the 2027 date announcement.

Accessibility

The organiser’s 2026 ticket listing described accessible toilets and wheelchair access, with BSL interpreters on stage throughout the acts. The parade page highlighted steep Vernon Street and offered the Sports Direct lift as an alternative ascent to Market Place.

Check that lift arrangement with the organiser before relying on it for a future event. A wheelchair-friendly parade still needs a workable route from the station and through the festival crowds.

The museum Quiet Space was monitored, but the organiser said it was not a place to leave vulnerable adults in others’ care. A dedicated accessible viewing area and a festival Changing Places toilet were not confirmed.

National Rail lists Stockport station as step-free to all platforms, with lifts. For event access questions, use the organiser’s published address, info@stockportpride.co.uk. Explain which entrance, toilet or viewing arrangement you need confirmed before travelling.
