A free bank holiday Sunday of Pride, from a daytime community stage at Trinity Walk to an 18+ evening party.
2026 event — 2027 date announced: 8 August 2027
Wakefield Pride is the city’s long-running LGBTQ+ celebration, run by a registered charity of volunteers and trustees. The organiser’s about page says it began in 2005 as Wakefield Pride not Prejudice. Its first aims were written on a beer mat in the lounge of The Rainbow pub.
The 2026 edition was smaller and more city-centre focused than earlier years. It followed the cancellation of the 2025 Thornes Park weekend after a loss of grants and sponsorship. In 2026 the day began on a community stage at Trinity Walk and moved to bars in the evening.
Pride grew out of protest against discrimination, and Wakefield’s first event was organised with local LGBT+ groups and health and community partners. The Wakefield Express reported on 2 September 2026 that hundreds of people enjoyed the 2026 day, so the event did take place.
Wakefield also has a separate event, Wakefield Community Pride, run by the charity LonGBoaT Wakefield. Its 2026 edition was held at Wakefield Exchange in August. This page covers Wakefield Pride.
Wakefield Pride 2026 took place on Sunday 30 August 2026, the bank holiday weekend. The council’s Experience Wakefield listing gave hours of 12pm to 11.30pm across two main venues.
The daytime community stage was at Trinity Walk shopping centre from 12pm to 3.30pm. The main event then ran at Lost Property, 3 Albion Court, WF1 1BD, from 3pm to 11.30pm. The same listing said Stereo Bar and Mex Bar also hosted Pride events, without giving times.
The organiser’s own website showed only a holding page when we checked in October 2026. The organiser’s announcement confirms the second Sunday in August 2027, which is 8 August. Check the organiser’s Facebook page for news before booking anything.
We found no parade in the 2026 arrangements. The council listing, the Wakefield Express preview and its post-event photo report all describe stages and venue parties, not a march.
Earlier Wakefield Prides did include a city-centre parade. A Gaydio listing still describes a parade and an 8–9 August weekend for 2026. That does not match the council listing or the news coverage, so we treat it as out of date. If a parade returns in 2027, we will add the route here.
The council listing described Wakefield Pride 2026 as free and family friendly. The Wakefield Express said free tickets were available for the Lost Property event through an online link. The ticket page for that event was on Skiddle.
According to the Wakefield Express, the Trinity Walk main stage featured Macie, Divine VK, Ariel 51 and DJ Mikki. Skiddle listed hosts St Sordid Secret, Glitz Von Winkle and Robin Banx at Lost Property. Its line-up included Tina Cousins, Nicki French and Honey G. The newspaper reported Honey G performing at 8pm.
Other pubs joined in. The Calder and Hops opened from 10.30am with tribute acts, and The New Union held an afternoon and evening of cabaret.
Age rules differed by venue. The Lost Property event was 18+, and the council asked visitors to bring ID. The Wakefield Express said under-18s were allowed at the Calder and Hops until 7pm with adult supervision. The council and the newspaper both described the event as family friendly.
Wakefield has two railway stations. Trinity Walk’s travel page says the centre is under ten minutes’ walk from Wakefield Westgate. It suggests heading down Westgate, then along Bull Ring and Westmorland Street. It is about a ten-minute walk from Wakefield Kirkgate, entering via Frederick Street.
National Rail lists Westgate as managed by LNER and Kirkgate by Northern. Trinity Walk says it is “seconds from” Wakefield bus station, which makes buses a simple option for the daytime stage.
Drivers can use the Trinity Walk car park, entered from Marsh Way (A61). Its parking page lists 1,000 spaces, 24-hour opening and a 2.1m height limit, and says parking on Sundays, bank holidays and evenings costs 50p, including for Blue Badge holders.
We found no published road closures or special late trains for 2026. The Lost Property event ran until 11.30pm, so check your last train or bus before you go. Plan a fallback such as a taxi or a room in the city.
The 2026 venues were all in the city centre, so a central room keeps the late walk back short. Compare flexible rates for the announced 2027 date.

Experience Wakefield describes Trinity Walk as an open-air centre. Its accessibility page says there are lifts, escalators and travelators between levels. It has a Changing Places toilet in the main toilet block near New Look, with a hoist; bring your own sling. Its parking page puts Blue Badge parking on the ground floor outside Sainsbury’s.
The evening venue is a different matter. Skiddle described the Lost Property event as “18+ with stairs”. Ask the venue about access before relying on it.
National Rail lists Wakefield Westgate as fully step-free, with lifts and a Changing Places toilet. Wakefield Kirkgate has some step-free access (category B2) and no lifts, and also has a Changing Places toilet. Book Passenger Assist if you need it.
We found no information on BSL, a quiet space or reserved viewing for 2026. Contact the organiser at hello@wakefieldpride.co.uk with access questions.

Yes. The council listed the 2026 event as free. The Wakefield Express said Lost Property used free tickets, booked online in advance.
We found no parade in the 2026 programme. The day centred on the Trinity Walk stage and evening events in city-centre bars.
The event was billed as family friendly, and the daytime stage was in a shopping centre. Lost Property was 18+, and the Calder and Hops allowed supervised under-18s until 7pm.
