About Winchester Pride

Winchester Pride is a small, family-friendly celebration run by a local charity of the same name, formerly known as Hampshire Pride. The charity works to end discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people and to support community projects across the Winchester District. Its 2026 event was the city’s first Winchester Pride, held around the Guildhall on The Broadway.

Pride began as protest, and marching for visibility and equal rights remains at its heart. In Winchester that meant a march led by civic leaders, with speeches, music and stalls around it. Expect a compact, friendly day rather than a large festival with stages and ticketed areas.

When and where

The 2026 event took place on Saturday 9 May 2026 on The Broadway, beside Winchester Guildhall. It ran from 11am until 5pm. The organiser described a community marketplace and entertainment from 11am, with the march at 2pm.

A local news review reported that part of The Broadway was closed and the event centred on the Guildhall steps. It also noted that the event was announced about seven weeks ahead. An edition had been planned for 2025, but it did not go ahead.

The charity says it plans to bring the festival back to Winchester in 2027. It was inviting LGBTQ+ people and allies to join the 2027 organising committee. No 2027 date had been published when we checked, so avoid booking non-refundable travel until one appears.

Winchester Pride march route and start time

In 2026, participants assembled in front of the Guildhall steps on The Broadway. A local news preview said gathering would begin at 1pm, ahead of the 2pm start. The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Sudhakar Achwal, spoke at the steps. He then led the march with Danny Chambers, the MP for Winchester.

The organiser did not publish a route or finish point. The news review mentioned road closures along the route. We have not found a map, so we cannot list the streets it used. Ask the organiser before planning a group or a particular viewing spot.

The Broadway is the obvious place to watch the start and the speeches. It is also where the afternoon performances continued after the march. No registration process for marching was published on the organiser’s site. Leave space for marchers and keep children close when the march sets off.

Winchester Pride free events and what’s on

Entry was free in 2026. The organiser did not mention tickets and asked supporters to donate through its online fundraising page. Budget separately for food, drink and anything you buy from stalls.

The 2026 community marketplace included ice cream, flags and a small number of local charitable organisations. The news review counted around ten stalls. Local acts Misty Lee, Swan Samba and Jack Trinder performed on the Guildhall steps. Speeches came from the Mayor, the MP and Cllr Martin Tod, leader of Winchester City Council.

The organiser describes Winchester Pride as family friendly. No age restrictions, bag rules or alcohol policy were published for the 2026 event. Several sponsors were local pubs and bars, but any drinks rules belong to those venues. If you need to know about a specific item or arrangement, email the organiser before the day.

Winchester Pride travel and road closures

Winchester station is on Station Hill, on the north-west side of the city centre. South Western Railway runs it. Trains from Platform 1 head towards London and Reading, and Platform 2 serves Southampton and Portsmouth. From the station, the walk to The Broadway passes through the city centre, so allow time if you are carrying bags.

Winchester City Council runs Park & Ride from five car parks: South Winchester, Pitt, Barfield, Barfield Phase II and St Catherine’s. Buses run Monday to Saturday, so they covered a Saturday event like 2026’s. The council lists a maximum of £3.50 for one car and up to six passengers, covering parking and travel all day. Check the current timetable before relying on a particular bus home.

The 2026 event closed part of The Broadway, and the news review mentioned closures along the march route. We did not find a published closure notice listing streets or times. Expect delays to buses and traffic around the centre in the early afternoon. The event finished at 5pm, which leaves the evening for travel. Check your train home and any engineering work on the day.

Accessibility

The organiser did not publish accessibility information for 2026. We found no details of viewing areas, BSL interpretation, a quiet space or accessible entry. The event was in the open street around the Guildhall steps, without a fenced site. Email hello@winchesterpride.org with specific questions and keep any reply in writing.

Winchester City Council lists public toilets at Abbey Gardens on The Broadway, with disabled facilities and baby changing. From 1 May to 30 September they open from 8am to 8pm. Market Lane toilets nearby have the same facilities and hours. The council’s list does not identify a Changing Places toilet in the centre, so ask the council or the organiser before you travel.

Winchester station is step-free to all platforms, though South Western Railway warns this may involve long or steep ramps. Lifts in the footbridge are available 24 hours. The operator lists toilets closing at 8.30pm, with accessible toilets available but no Changing Places toilet. Staff are available until 11pm, and assistance can be booked up to two hours before travel.
