About Bedford Pride

Bedford Pride took place for the first time on Saturday 5 September 2026. Bedford Borough Council described it as the borough’s first-ever town-centre Pride event. It was organised by Rainbow Bedfordshire, a community LGBTQ+ organisation, together with The Barley Mow pub. The Harpur Trust and the University of Bedfordshire sponsored it, and the council helped with planning.

This is a small, grassroots Pride rather than a big ticketed festival. The day centred on Harpur Square and the Harpur Suite, with workshops, stalls, a drag-hosted outdoor stage and pub events across town. Rainbow Bedfordshire’s founders said it would be a time for the community to be visible, show resilience, reflect on the past and celebrate together.

Pride began as protest, and campaigning for equal rights and safety remains part of every Pride, however local.

When and where

The 2026 event was on Saturday 5 September. The council’s report afterwards confirms it went ahead, and the organiser has since posted photos on its Pride 2026 page.

The main sites were Harpur Square, which had an outdoor stage, and the Harpur Suite on the square, which held stalls and a second stage. Bedford Central Library ran workshops through the afternoon. Later, events moved to The Bear and The Standard on the High Street, with an afterparty at The Barley Mow.

Published hours differed. The Bedford Independent’s what’s-on listing gave 1pm to 8pm for Harpur Square and the Harpur Suite. The Gaydio events guide listed 11am to 8pm. Treat the next programme as the authority.

No 2027 date had been announced on the organiser’s website when we checked. Follow Rainbow Bedfordshire and the @bedford.pride Instagram account for news.

Is there a Bedford Pride parade?

We found no parade or march for Bedford Pride 2026. The organiser’s posts, the council’s report and the local news preview describe events in Harpur Square, the Harpur Suite, the library and town-centre pubs. The Gaydio listing mentioned a parade route that had not been published, but no other source we checked described one.

If a procession is added for a future year, the route and assembly point should appear on the organiser’s channels first. Until then, plan your day around the square rather than the streets.

Bedford Pride free events and what’s on

Entry was free. The Bedford Independent listing said so, and we found no ticketed element for the daytime programme. Food, drinks and anything bought from stalls were separate costs.

According to the Bedford Independent’s preview, the Harpur Suite hosted stalls from local artists and community groups. Its stage offered live music, comedy, poetry and speeches, all with BSL interpretation. From 6pm the Nebula creative collective took over with performance art, film and a set from the band Boxship.

Outside, The Barley Mow sponsored the Harpur Square stage, hosted all day by drag queen Britney Dallas. Bedford Central Library ran workshops from 1pm to 5pm, including zine-making, placard-making and board games. Not Everything Sucks CIC organised a Pride Window Competition, with decorated shop windows on display until Sunday 6 September.

No age rules were published for the daytime events, and the preview welcomed friends and families. The evening programme moved into pubs, so check each venue’s own entry policy before bringing under-18s.

Bedford Pride travel and road closures

Bedford station is on Ashburnham Road. Its station page lists a taxi rank at the front and a ticket office open until 9pm on Saturdays. The council’s rail page notes Thameslink local services, East Midlands Railway intercity services and London Northwestern Railway trains on the Marston Vale line to Bletchley.

The council’s toilets page places Bedford bus station on Greenhill Street. Check your bus operator’s Saturday evening timetable before you travel.

If you drive, the council’s car parks page lists town-centre multi-storeys at Allhallows, Lurke Street, Queen Street and River Street. It says up to two hours are free on Saturdays in town-centre car parks, but you still need a pay-and-display ticket. On-street parking is free after 6pm Monday to Saturday, except Castle Lane. We found no published Pride road closures for 2026.

We found no special late trains for the event. Check the last service to your destination before the evening programme starts, and recheck it on the day.

Accessibility

All the talks, music and performances on the Harpur Suite stage had BSL interpretation in 2026, according to both the council and the Bedford Independent. The Corn Exchange access page says the Harpur Suite is reached by a street-level ramp from Harpur Square and has disabled toilets.

The council’s toilets page lists a Changing Places toilet on the ground floor of The Higgins Bedford, open Saturdays from 11am to 5pm. Another is at Russell Park, open 7am to 6pm from March to October. The River Street car park facility was listed as closed.

Harpur Square is an open public square, so there was no reserved viewing area. We found no published quiet space for Pride 2026, although Rainbow Bedfordshire says its 2025 Queer Prom had a quiet area and BSL interpretation.

Bedford station has step-free access to all platforms, with a staff-operated ramp for boarding. National Key toilets are available, and staff are on hand 24 hours a day. You can book assistance on 0800 058 2844. For event access questions, use the contact form on Rainbow Bedfordshire’s website.
